Stonehenge & Avebury Celebrates 30 Years as UNESCO’s World Heritage Site

StonehengeIn 1986 Stonehenge and Avebury were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List along with other sites in the UK and that marks them 30 years for this year.

To celebrate their 30th anniversary they will hold a conference at Devizes on 19 and 20 November 2016. The conference speakers are Dr Alison Sheridan (National Museums of Scotland), Dr Serge Cassen (University of Nantes), Prof Tim Darvill (University of Bournemouth), Prof Vince Gaffney (University of Bradford), Dr Josh Pollard (University of Southampton), Julian Richards (Archaeologist and TV Presenter) and many more.

2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the World Heritage Site status of Stonehenge and Avebury.

There are a number of events taking place across the year including a number of events at the Wiltshire Museum and the National Trust WHS Walking Challenge

The culmination of our celebrations will be a conference on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November 2016.

We anticipate a day of talks on Saturday and then a chance to explore the WHS and its related collections on Sunday 20 November.
