WYAP Work Placement Blog!

Hey everyone! My name is Emma Johnson, I'm 17, love music and at the moment, I'm doing work experience at WYAP in Corsham. WYAP stands for Wiltshire Youth Arts Partnership and they organise many events for young people to get involved in in Wiltshire. As I have attended many of these events, I wanted to understand what goes on behind the scenes when organising one.

This week, I have been helping to organise events called YNM Creative Juice and the Music Matters celebration. On my first day, I helped in finding more bands and artists to perform for YNM. This involved calling up various people and trying to find appropriate bands to play. It was suprisingly hard to contact some of these artists, but in the end we managed to find some. YNM creative juice will take place on the 30th July at the Salisbury Play House and the Salisbury Arts Centre.

Also on my first day, I created a poster and facebook event for the Music Matters celebration. Music Matters is another project that WYAP organise. It involves many 13-19 year olds from all over Wiltshire coming together and creating music with the help of some young leaders. The celebration event takes place after all of the intensive courses from the past year and includes as much of the music created as possible. It is a great way for kids to share their music with friends, family and even members of the public. This year, it will take place on the 20th of August, after three weeks of intensive courses in Salisbury and Bradford on Avon.

On Friday, Carrie, I and a small group of young people gathered in Salisbury Arts Centre to help edit some flyers for YNM creative juice. As the supporting band could not make it, we had to edit the flyers accordingly. We spent four hours covering their name with sticky labels whilst chatting and eating to create a relaxing atmosphere.
