Review of Thoroughly Modern Millie
Here is a review of 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' performed by St John's, Marlborough senior students, it what very entertaining and great to watch.
Thoroughly Modern Millie is a musical about a young girl from Kansas (Millie Dillmount) who travels to New York in search for a new life for herself. The play is set in 1922 so the main dance craze is the Charleston. Through the play Millie discovers that fame, fortune and love are harder to find than she thought.
The role of Millie was played by Alice More, the role of Jimmy (Millie’s secret admirer and secret millionare!) was played by Ben Cipolla, Miss Dorothy (Millie’s new best friend and orphan) was played by Emma Whitworth. The role of Miss Meer’s, the evil Chinese villan and owner of Hotel Pricilla (a hotel for aspiring actors) was played by Sarah Crookhall. She steels orphaned girls staying at the hotel and sends them to Japan to sell them as slaves.
The part of Mr Graydon ( Millie’s boss and her “future Husband”, that’s how Millie sees him) was played by Duncan Lorrain, the role of Muzzy Van Hossmere (a famous Performer) was played by Luci Budd, The role of Miss Flannery (A stern lady who works at the front desk at Millie’s new job) she was played by Nancy Smith. The two fools of the play were Ching How and Bun Foo, they were the Chinese henchman of Miss Meers, they could not speak a word of English! were played by Connor Ford
(Ching How) and Tom Rogerson (Bun Foo) they made me and everyone else in the theatre laugh out loud!
The director of the performance was Max More he was also the music director, Steve Tapper was the producer, Andrea Smith was the choreographer and Tess Ellison was the Acting director.
Special appearances were from Ann Marr: Daphne and Steve Tapper: Dexter, they made the whole audience laugh!
St John's performance on “Thoroughly Modern Millie” was ‘thoroughly’ entertaining! The quality of acting, dancing and singing was very high and the set design was very good. I think that the performance showed everyone just how much talent St John's has.
