November beats 2011 introduce Mango Dip
A new found band called Mango Dip from Germany had come together and started playing music just six months ago hoping to inspire other people with their music. Before the band were all playing together the band started off with just two band members including Alex and Delf before Nico and Andy joined the band six months ago. ‘I convinced the other members they were good enough to play so I pushed them to become better'. The band has played at other gigs and competitions to get them known around Germany. ‘When we first became a band we played for six hours a day, five days a week. It was intense but it was worth it. I don't get as much time as we used to but it's enough'.
The band whom consist of singer Andy, guitarist Nico, Drummer Alex, and guitarist Delf, were all sat beside me on a blue sofa at the November beats in Hamburg. They were currently competing for the best band and to become part of a band exchange of coming to England. We were currently surrounded by other competitors chatting away with one another. The band looked very casual as the questions were given.
The band told me how they like to record their music and upload it onto their website to try and get their music heard. ‘We like to try different styles and see what fits in with our personal styles'. They told me how they were planning to becoming a well known band, ‘we have the opportunity to compete in this competition. It's quite exciting really as you don't know who's lurking in the crowd so you have to perform at your best'.
Talking about the bands history we begun to talk about the band's name and where it came from. ‘At the time of naming the band we just had to go with Mango Dip as we all like the taste, it just had to be'. Asking the band who first started out they all point at guitarist Delf and drummer Alex.
‘We were both in our own band so we have been playing together for a much longer period than the rest of the group. When we saw Andy he asked if we would like to join his band so we thought it would be a good experience'.
Looking at the time the band tells me I have 5 more minutes of their time.
Going on to talk about the band's inspirations and how they come up with their material, singer Andy decides to speak up. ‘When I first got interested in music I liked Ballet so I think I was inspired from that as it got me more interested in different kinds of music. With the music and lyrics the music always comes first as we think it is easier to create than lyrics'.
The band won the competition and now has the chance to visit England and play at one of their gigs.
