About MusicMatters
MusicMatters is a 12 month music project for 13-19 year olds in Wiltshire giving young people the chance to experience everything to do with writing, playing and recording music.
The project is managed by Wiltshire Youth Arts Partnership and delivered in partnership with Wiltshire Music Centre, Wiltshire Music Service, Salisbury Arts Centre, Wiltshire College and Wiltshire Councils Development Services for Young People. This year the project is funded by the Department of Children, Schools and Families as part of a broader programme of music making for children and young people in Wiltshire called ‘Wiltshire Music Connect.’
The core aims of MusicMatters are to:
• Improve things to do/places to go for young people in Wiltshire through providing high quality participatory music activities
• Ensure activities support the every child matters agenda and are geared towards developing skills, raising self esteem and encouraging achievement
• work with hard to reach young people - those young people who may be rurally isolated, or have limited access to arts activities
• To provide opportunities for training and professional development throughout the project for older young people and emerging artists
• Enable young people to develop their skills in music and make creative choices throughout the project
• establish a sustainable project model for future development.
