Jamie & Joe @ BPM 2010
BPM Show, Birmingham is Europe's largest DJing convention, with thousands of mixers, producers, and record label owners attending from all over the UK and the world. For the last couple of years, we've been going to BPM. It's always a massive weekend, and this year didn't break the trend.
The big news this year was the mystery guest (revealed just days before the event), Trance music legend, Paul Van Dyk. Paul attended the event on Saturday, tried out some of the tech on offer, met some of the guests (including us!), and then played a mammoth 6-hour set at the Gatecrasher BPM after party, in Birmingham. I was hoping to record a chat with Paul for Spark, but the noise in the arena was too loud ... the microphone simply couldn't cope! We also met Rozalla, a dance diva most famous for her big club hits in the 90's, including the legendary anthem "Everybody's Free".
Of course, we took time between breaking our eardrums, to try out some of the latest evolutions in DJ Tech that BPM has to offer. The latest version of Traktor is particularly impressive for mixing and live performance, and I spent a good hour playing with Logic Pro 9, the simply brilliant new production package from Apple.
BPM is the ideal place for budding young DJ's to network, and it's generally just a great weekend. I'd fully recommend it.
