Saturday Rock School
£36 per term (same as £3 per sesson approx)
Saturday
10.00 – 11.30am and 11.30 – 1.00pm
Grosvenor took on the running of Rock School from S.A.Y.M. last Easter and it is advertised in the same way through our local schools with S.A.Y.M advertising.
Nothing has changed as of the running of the day with the sessions still being .
There are bonuses though!
All young people will be offered the chance to complete there Arts Award’s to bronze and silver level and will also be invited to join the Music Matters events that run in the holidays – these are usually charged at about £15.00 for 5 intense days of working with other professionals in the music field, using alternative types of music and sound with a show case of some kind at the end of the week ,with a final showcase that takes place in the summer at venues such as the Salisbury Art centre.
The young people will also benefit from having first refusal of band rooms in the evening (when they become available) once they are ready to continue rehearsing on their own or if they think they would benefit from extra rehearsal – these sessions are at Grosvenor House in the evening from 7.00 – 9.30 and the cost is £1.00 per band member per week- these sessions are youth worker supported but NOT tutored by musicians.
The main aim of Rock School is to act as a place where aspiring young musicians can come to enhance their skills both on and off the instruments and to prepare them for a future as a gigging musician/performer.
It is a valuable opportunity to meet and socialise with other people with the same mind set. For the vast majority of attendees, performing as a group or solo artist in front of a live audience will be a completely new experience. Our aim is to get them playing in bands together and to ensure their time at rock school is used to its full effect in preparation for them as individuals and as groups for their first performances.
The aim is to put on 3 live performances throughout the year, one at Christmas, one at Easter and one in the summer. (Nick and Al (tutors) will secure venues for these) Each gig will be filmed so that the bands can all have a memento of their performance, and also footage for analysis of their individual performances and that of the band's.
The band set's will have to include at least one original song, at least one cover song, and one cover song that's to be performed in a different style to the original. Rock school rehearsals will involve instrumental tuition, an in-depth insight into the way in which a tight band works in synergy to achieve the best overall sound, effective rehearsal techniques and the methods used to achieve the aforementioned compulsory set list requirements. Other Artists will be brought in from the live music scene when needed – for example to help with vocals.
As the year goes on, we would like to introduce the chance for bands to record demo CDs and to highlight the importance of getting their music up online on sites such as Myspace and Sound Cloud and of course www.Sparksite.co.uk. A final bonus for the young up and coming musicians of Saturday Rock School!
We look forward to seeing you at Grosvenor house – Nick, Al and Dawne
